사랑하는 동역자님, 기쁜 성탄절입니다!
예수님의 탄생을 기억하시면서 올 해 멋진 기념일을 보내시길 바랍니다!! 저희는 가족들과 함께 성탄절을 보내기 위해 며칠 있으려고 버지니아에 있는 이반 Evan 과 레아 Leah의 집에서 세 명의 손녀들 (디트리히 Dietrich-3세, 아비가일 Abigail-5세, 엘리사 Elysa-7세)와 함께 있습니다. 데이비드 David 와 페이트 Faith도 함께 할 수 있어서 매우 특별한 시간들이었습니다. 하나님께서 얼마나 멋진 가족으로 저희를 축복해 주셨는지 깨닫게 합니다! 
저희는 이 편지가 어떤 새로운 소식이 될 것인지 고심하였습니다. 한편으로는, 성탄절과 가정의 기쁨에 대한 “전형적인” 편지를 보내 드리고 싶었습니다. 하지만 그것은 전체적인 저희의 삶과 하나님의 나라와 이 세상 나라 간의 전투에 대한 정확한 묘사가 될 수 없을 것입니다. 그래서 저희는 저희 사역이 앞으로 나아가기 위해 필요한 기도를 요청하는 보고서를 택했습니다. 여러가지 방면에서 올해는 어려움이 많았던 한 해였습니다. 솔직히 말씀드리면, 올 해는 저희의 약함을 깨닫게 되었던 한해였기에 저희를 위한 여러분들의 중보 기도에 진심으로 감사드립니다. 성경에서 말씀하시기를, “약한 자가 말하기를, 나는 강하다!” 이와 같이, 나약함은 하나님을 찾도록 저희를 이끌었습니다. 
10월 대통령 선거 이후로 볼리비아 거리에서는 그 선거의 조작과 무효를 주장하는 폭동이 있었습니다. 정부의 부패는 볼리비아에서 항상 있었던 일입니다. 이번 경우에, 2006년에 선출된 공산당의 지도자가 헌법을 바꾸고 권력 유지를 밀어붙이고 있었습니다. 저는 언제나 복음에 집중하고 볼리비아 정치에 편을 들지 않는 쪽을 택해왔습니다. 그렇지만 그 폭동은 저희의 교회가 위치한 지방 마을들로 이동하는 것을 어렵게 만들었습니다. 그래서 저희는 기도하고 있습니다…
인도의 기독교 작업 또한 점점 더 어려워지고 있습니다. 기억하실지 모르겠으나, 론다와 저는 올 해 초에 저희를 체포하려는 위협에 인도를 나오는 것을 두고 기도했었습니다. 10월에 기독교 활동에 연루되었다는 이유로 체포되었고 아직도 미국으로 돌아오지 못하고 있는 테네시 목사님에 대한 글을 읽으셨을 것입니다. 박해는 인도 역사상 이미 최고조에 달해 있었지만 2019년 5월에 급진적 힌두교 정당이 재선되었고 박해는 더 심해졌습니다. 몇 주 전에, 그들은 한 사람의 시민권을 결정하기 위해 종교를 사용하는 법안을 통과시켰습니다. 제가 이 편지를 적고 있을 때, 인도 전역에 폭동이 일어나고 여행은 제한되었습니다. 그래서 다시, 저희는 기도하고 있습니다…
저희가 그 두 나라들에 심은 씨앗에서 계속 열매가 맺히고 있습니다. 론다와 저는 미국인 목사님께서 체포되셨던 도시에 갔었고 그 지역의 57명의 학생들이 ISOM 성경 수업의 첫 학기를 마쳤다는 소식을 들었습니다. 북인도는 일반적으로 박해의 온상지였으나 12월 초에 북쪽 주, 구자라트 Gujarat, 펀자브 Punjab, 그리고 히마찰 프라데시 Himachal Pradesh에 있는 11개 도시에서 ISOM이 사용되어지고 있다는 소식을 이메일을 통해 인도 리더로부터 전해 받았습니다. 번역/제작 사무실은 계속해서 인도에서 사용하는 21개 언어로 번역된 새로운 성경 수업 교재들의 제작과 배포를 하고 있습니다. 몇 년 전에, 이러한 자료들을 mp3와 mp4로 변환하는 귀중한 작업을 시작 했었습니다. 이는 믿는 이들이 성경학교 전체를 휴대용 저장장치에 담아 들고 다닐 수 있도록 해 줍니다. 씨를 광범위하게 뿌리고 있기에 정부가 그들의 활용을 막을 수 없을 것입니다. 
론다의 건강을 위한 전쟁은 올해 후반에도 극에 달했습니다. 그녀의 정맥에 화학 약품을 주입하자 알레르기 반응을 보이기 시작했습니다. 그래서 의사들은 6주 전에 그녀가 알약을 먹게 하였습니다. 그들은 그녀의 몸이 견딜 수 있는지 보려고 첫 4주간 최대치의 복용량을 정했습니다. 론다는 피곤해 했고 대부분의 시간을 메스꺼워 하였습니다. 의사들이 11월 말에 혈액을 검사해 본 결과 그 알약이 그녀의 간과 혈액 수에 엄청난 영향을 끼치고 있는 것을 발견하였습니다. 그래서 그들은 복용량을 33%로 줄였고 그녀는 점점 나아지고 있습니다. 의사들이 말하길, 대부분의 환자들이 적응하기에 세 달이 걸리기 때문에 그만큼 기다려 봐야 한다고 했습니다. 저희는 그렇게 되기를 바라고 있습니다. 이 이야기의 고무적인 부분은 하나님께서 저희에게 한 종양학자를 만나게 해 주신 것입니다. 그 종양학자는 미국에서 유명하신 분이십니다. 그가 말씀하시길, 론다는 그녀 병세의 심각성에 비해 좋은 상황에 있다고 하셨습니다. 저희는 기도하고 있고 하나님을 구하고 있습니다. 그가 그녀의 상태를 완전히 호전시켜 주시리라고 믿습니다! 재정적으로도, 하나님께서는 신실하셔서 저희에게는 밀린 병원비가 없습니다. 1월에 $6000을 지불해야 하지만 그 해의 건강 관리 정책 최대 정산에 맞출 수 있을 것입니다.
전투가 격렬할 때 우리는 더 많이 배우게 됩니다. 첫번째로 우리는 하나님께서 항상 사랑해주시고, 인도해주시고, 우리 편에 서신다는 사실에 매달리는 법을 배웁니다. 최근에 “하나님은 결국 당신에게 복을 주실 것이고, 그의 복을 보지 못했다면 그것은 끝이 아니다!!”라는 글을 보았습니다. 우리는 그를 전심으로 신뢰하고 우리의 평안과 기쁨을 굳게 붙들어야 합니다. 둘째로, 우리는 그의 목소리를 듣기 위해 변함없이 기도안에 머물러야 한다는 것을 배웁니다. 그렇게 해야만 우리는 삶의 모든 상황을 효과적으로 다룰 수 있습니다. 마지막으로, 우리는 매일 주님의 말씀을 묵상해야 함을 배웁니다. 속임의 적그리스도 영은 마지막 때에 가장 만연할 것입니다. 그리고 택함받은 자는 반드시 성경에 드러난 하나님의 참된 성품과 거룩함을 굳게 붙들어야 합니다. 예수님은 그가 암송한 하나님의 말씀들로 악한 뱀을 무찔렀고 선포할 준비가 되어 있습니다!
론다와 저는 인도와 볼리비아를 향한 저희의 비전이 매우 가치 있고 아직 성취되지 않았다고 봅니다. 저희는 저희가 할 수 있는 모든 것을 하기 위해 인내하며 계속할 것입니다. 아주 오랜 세월 동안 저희와 함께 해온 교회 네트워크 리더들을 통해서 여전히 일 할 수 있다는 것을 알고 있습니다. 인도 여행을 방해한 어려움들은 저희가 그 나라에서 저희 일을 감독할 청렴한 인도인을 찾는 것을 강화하게 만들었습니다. 저는 이러한 막중한 책임을 누군가에게 봉급과 여행비도 없이 맡길 수 없습니다. 그렇지만 “돈만 주면 뭐든지 하는” 영혼을 가진 사람은 시간 낭비입니다. 하나님께서 저희에게 적당한 사람을 주시도록 기도해 주시기 바랍니다. 동시에, 저희는 델리 사무소를 통해 계속해서 가능한 한 많이 제작하고 배포할 것입니다. 두 나라의 혼란이 결국에는 진정되리라 믿습니다. 또 저희는 여행 비용이 얼마가 들든 하나님께서 인도하시면 감당할 것입니다. 
저희는 저희가 뿌린 모든 씨앗이 뿌리를 내리고 열매를 맺도록 여러분께서 기도로 함께 하실 것을 알고 있습니다. 론다의 여정을 통해 건강과 장수에 대한 하나님의 약속을 가지도록 하나님께서 이끄시는 것을 계속 전해드리겠습니다. 여러분들의 필요를 두고 또한 기도하도록 알려주시기 바랍니다. 여러분들께 진심으로 감사드립니다!!

Merry Christmas, dear friend!

We hope you are having a wonderful celebration this year as we remember
the birth ofJesus!! We were just with our three grandchildren (Dietrich — 3,
Abigail — 5, and Elysa — 7) for a few days at Evan and Leah’s house in Virginia for
our family Christmas. David and Faith were able to come and it was a very special time.
It makes us realize what a wonderful family God has blessed us with!

We struggled with the type of update this would be. On one hand, we wanted to
send a “Hallmark” type greeting about the joy of Christmas and family. However,
that wouldn’t have been an accurate depiction of our life as a whole and the
struggle between the Kingdom of God and the kingdoms of this world. So, we
opted for a report that would generate the prayer needed to move our ministry
forward. This has been a challenging year in many ways. Honestly, it has been a
year in which we have recognized our weaknesses, which has made us extremely
grateful for your prayers for us. The scripture says, “Let the weak say, I am
strong!” Most likely, this is because weakness drives us to seek God.

There have been riots in the streets of Bolivia since the October presidential election was declared rigged and inva-
lid. Governmental corruption has always been commonplace in Bolivia. In this case, the communist leader that was
elected in 2006 was changing the constitution and pushing to remain in power. I have always chosen to focus on the
gospel and not take sides in Bolivian politics. However, the riots make it very difficult to plan travel to the rural vi|Iages where our churches are located. 50, we are praying...

Christian work in India also continues to become more difficult. If you remember, Rhonda and I had to pray our way out of India at the beginning of this year because of threats to have us arrested. You may have read of a Tennessee pastor who was arrested in October for involvement in Christian activities and has not yet been allowed to return to the USA. Persecution was already at its highest point in Indian history but, in May 20 | 9, the radical Hindu party was re-eIected, and the persecution increased even more. A few weeks ago, they pushed through a law in which they are using religion to determine a person’s right to citizenship. As | write this, there are riots across India and travel is restricted. So again, we are praying...

And fruit continues to come from seeds we have sown in both of these countries. Rhonda and I have been in the city where the American pastor was arrested and we just received the report that 57 students in that area have completed the first semester of the ISOM Bible curriculum. North India is generally the hotbed for persecution but, in early December, I received an email from an Indian leader stating that the ISOM is being utilized in | | cities in the northern states of Gujarat, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh. Our translation/production office continues to produce and distribute new Bible study materials in the 2| languages that we utilize for India. A few years ago, we began the invaluable conversion of these materials into Mp3 and Mp4 formats, which enables believers to carry an entire Bible
School on a flash drive. These have been sown so extensively that it will never be possible for the government to stop their utilization.

The warfare for Rhonda’s health has been at a fever pitch in the latter part of this year as well. She started having allergic reactions to the intravenous chemo infusions so they started her on a chemo pill about six weeks ago. They gave her the maximum dosage for the first four weeks to see if her body could tolerate it. She felt tired and very nauseous most of the time and, when they ran blood tests at the end of November, they found it had dramatically affected her liver and blood counts. 50 they reduced the dosage 33% and she is doing better. They said that we need to give it three months because generally patients adapt to it after that time. We certainly hope so. The encouraging side of this story is that God gave us an oncologist who is one of the best in the nation and he said that Rhonda is on the very good side of the spectrum regarding the severity of her condition. We are praying and seeking God and believe that He will take us off of the spectrum entirely! Financially, God has been so faithful and
we have no medical debt. We will need to pay $6000 in the month ofJanuary but that will meet our healthcare policy’s maximum out-of-pocket for her for the year.

We learn the most when the battle is the fiercest. First, we learn to cling to the fact that God is always loving, leading and on our side. I read recently, “God will bless you in the end and, if you are not seeing His blessing, it is not the end!!” We are fully committed to trust in Him and hold tightly to our peace and joy. Second, we learn to remain consistent in prayer in order to hear His voice. Only then can we effectively navigate every situation of life. Last, we learn that we must meditate daily on His Word. The antichrist spirit of deception will be most prevalent in these last days and the elect must hold firm to the true character and holiness of God as revealed in the Bible.

Jesus overcame the snares of the devil by the Word of God that He had memorized and was ready to speak forth!
Rhonda and | see our vision for India and Bolivia as extremely valuable and not yet completed. We are persevering to do as much as possible however and wherever we can. We know that we can still work through the church network leaders, with whom we have been in relationship for so many years. The difficulties hindering our Indian travel have prompted us to intensify our search for an integrous Indian to oversee our work in this country. I could not ask someone to take this immense responsibility without providing them with a salary and travel expens-es. However, a person with a “hireling” spirit is a waste of time. Please agree with us that God will bring us the right person. In the meantime, we will continue to produce and distribute as much as possible through our Delhi office. We believe that the turmoil in both countries will calm down eventually and we are willing to take

whatever travel risks God leads us to take.

We know that we can count on you to agree in prayer that every seed we have
sown wi|| sprout and bear fruit. We will keep you updated as God directs us
through Rhonda’s journey to possess God’s promise of good health and long life.
